When one of my best friends, Chrissy, told me she wanted to run for homecoming queen, I was absolutely ecstatic. I was so proud of her simply for making the decision to run, especially on a campus of 24,000 students. It took a lot of courage and confidence to run, so when Chrissy asked me to be by her side through it all as her campaign manager, I was a bit nervous. Despite this, I enthusiastically said yes with hopes of making both her and myself proud, and I am so thankful I did.

By being Chrissy’s campaign manager, I made incredible memories while also gaining valuable experience that was applicable to my career field. One of my biggest tasks was maintaining Chrissy’s social media presence. We posted several times a week and shared informative, fun information about Chrissy that allowed users to get to know her while staying in line with our campaign theme, “Let’s Nguyen This Thing!” In order to develop our social media content, I held various photoshoots with Chrissy and wrote captions for most of our posts. I then developed an effective social media plan and scheduled content through Later, which allowed us to stay on track throughout her campaign. In addition to social media, I helped design and distribute flyers, banners, and buttons and photographed Chrissy at all of the homecoming events.

Being Chrissy’s campaign manager was the first opportunity I have had to completely start a brand’s social media presence from scratch, which was an opportunity that I really enjoyed. This experience not only strengthened my friendship with Chrissy, but also gave me valuable skills and lessons, and it is an opportunity that I am so thankful to have had!
Chrissy Nguyen,
Homecoming Queen Candidate & My Friend on my time as her campaign manager
"From my Instagram posts being posted at a timely manner to keeping me on track with due dates, Cela was always ensuring my success. There truly is no one else better for this role. She was constantly checking in on me and asking how I was doing, mentally and physically.
Cela, thank you for being my campaign manager and doing a fabulous job. Thank you for your vigilance, creativity, flexibility, and dedication. Thank you for spending countless hours with me on this campaign. Thank you for the rant sessions and late nights. But most importantly: thank you for being my friend and for being you. I couldn’t have done any of this without you."
